Best Camping Hacks & Tricks you should know
I’ve been camping for around 40 years and I never thought of it as a life or death decision making process.
To narrow it down to only the things that are most likely to kill you, I would focus on the basics of survival, and I will add the wildcard of wildlife
Shelter –
Bring an adequate tent, sleeping bag and pad, so you will be warm and dry. Keep your tent tightly zipped up at night to prevent unwanted animal intruders.
Water –
If you’re camping away from potable water, make sure you bring a filter/purification system, so you can stay hydrated. If you’re in an arid area, bring as many gallons of water as needed for the duration of your trip.
Food –
Bring a variety of food, which won’t easily break, spill or spoil. Store it away from your sleeping area and secure it from wildlife. Never store food in your tent.
Communication –
Let people know where and when you’re going. If possible, avoid camping or hiking alone. Always keep a charged cell phone with you.
Wildlife –
If you’re in bear country, keep your food either hoisted high from the limb of a tree, or submerge it in a stream in waterproof containers with large rocks on top.
Weapons –
If wildlife intrusion is a potential problem where you’re going, bring bear spray/pepper spray. A small air horn can be incredibly effective as well. Always carry a knife when camping.
Survival Kit –
Experienced hikers/campers usually put together a small bag of survival items, such as first aid supplies, water purification tablets, waterproof matches, a space blanket, signal mirror, paracord, bullion cubes, compass, etc…
